Calf in the Clinic
by Dr. Allen George, Peru
2 August 2006
Can you imagine what it is like to run a mobile medical clinic in the Andes mountains of Peru? As Allen George relates, patients seeking treatment aren't the only visitors: "Moo!" "Hey! That's a calf!" said Lydall, the ultrasonographer. I'm a farm kid. I knew that, but this is the first time that I have had a calf invade my clinic. Nonetheless, I didn't pay much attention as I finished with the patient and wrote down which medicines I had given to the sick lady. When I caught the calf sucking on a roll of cotton and unraveling it from the package, I led her outside. I often say to myself, "Clinics are sure different here!"
The Georges take their mobile clinic to remote villages to support the work of local church leaders. They saw about 90 patients during this 2-day visit and showed films about Jesus in the waiting room.
This particular village is called Llaullipata. God is transforming lives through this ministry of compassion. Only a year ago there were just three or four believers and no church at all. Now the church has about 20 adult and 15 youth believers. The Georges return to this village every month to encourage the church and to care for the sick. PrayPlease pray for the church in Llaullipata to grow in number and in love for their neighbors.
