Aresenic Alleviation Program Expanding
30 June 2008
woman and her daughter with a new arsenic filter

The Arsenic Alleviation Program in Bangladesh is expanding. With the arrival of two short-term workers at the beginning of the year, a new office was opened in the Faridpur district, an area where tests showed very high levels of arsenic.

Over 450 homes were tested in the first quarter of 2008, and 84% of them showed levels higher than the government standard for clean water. Already over 300 filters have been installed, providing arsenic free water to 2,200 local Bengalis.

Pray

  • praising God for the significant growth and for the opportunity to help people who are drinking dangerously high levels of arsenic contaminated water in the Faridpur district.
  • for the two new short-term workers, Mike (from Australia) and John (from New Zealand), who will be in Bangladesh through January 2009. Pray that they will quickly establish what they can add to the program this year and work well with the national staff.
  • for the new staff member to quickly learn his responsibilities and become committed to the goals and vision of the project.
  • for sensitivity of the staff to not only the health needs but also the spiritual needs of the people they meet during village visits each day.
