A Twenty-Year Journey
by A worker in South Asia
22 July 2005
I went to a week-long conference in a neighboring town that was for the leaders of the local believers in our general area. One of my roommates at the conference was named Sam. I asked him how he came to faith. Back in 1981, he found a small evangelical tract on the ground near his home. He didn't remember much about the tract, but there was a contact address on the back of it. He wrote to this address, and they sent him a Scripture portion from the Gospel of Luke. He was interested in what he read, but there was no one in his area who could give him more information.

Jump forward now 20 years to 2001. Way of Life began to show the Jesus film in parts of the district where Sam lives. When the team came to his village, he saw the film. Sam also met a worker from Way of Life who reaches out to his area. Through this contact he was able to get his questions answered, and he came to faith in Christ and was baptized—over 20 years after his initial exposure to the gospel.

Sam now has a great spiritual concern for the other members of his family. He recently took another worker to share the Good News with his son-in-law's family. It is good to see the faithfulness of God as He works in people's lives over a long period of time. I also have gone to the son-in-law's village area and met him and Sam's daughter and sister who live in that area. I introduced them to a local evangelist who will be following up with them.
