The night our well dried up, we were left with barely a drop of water in the house. I brought in a bottle of dirty water we keep in the car for washing mud off of our headlights, strained it, and gave baths in the one and a half liters of not-so-clean water. I went to bed that night, desperate for the city water to come on in the morning. I woke frequently during the night, praying that the water would come on. I pleaded and begged God to meet this desperate need of ours.
As I was jogging in the morning, it suddenly occurred to me that I should be as desperate for God Himself as I was for Him to give us water. "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God." (Psalm 42:1-2)
Do we desire Him as desperately as I was hoping for water for my family and pets?
