APPLE Project (94248)

The APPLE Project—AIDS PREVENTION PLUS LIFE EDUCATION—empowers young people to make sound choices from a biblical worldview in the context of today's social pressures. Started in 2001 as a shared ministry of SIM Zambia and Scripture Union, APPLE has since impacted thousands of Zambian youth. APPLE focuses on behaviour change as a means of AIDS prevention.

By training Peer Educators to take the Life Skills course into Zambian public schools, young people hear from other young people how to live in a wise and godly way. As Peer Educators embrace life to its fullest, they in turn teach, disciple and mentor others, while presenting a positive role model.

Teaching a class of young boys
A peer educator teaches
"Straight Talk About Sex" to
7th & 8th grade boys.

The program is for children and youth from grades four to twelve. A series of seven interactive seminars (four days a week for seven weeks to cover all topics) are taught. Some of the topics are:

  • Freedom, Choices and Consequences
  • Communication
  • Family, Friends, and Love
  • Growing Up
  • Sex and HIV/AIDS
