Serving in United Kingdom
From: United Kingdom
Who I am:I joined SIM in 1991 as a science teacher for Carachipampa Christian School in Bolivia. In 1997, I became the director/headteacher of the school, leading it through two accreditation cycles and through an ambitious building programme, replacing the old adobe (mud brick) classrooms with modern brick built ones. For the 2002/03 school year, I was seconded to Sahel Academy in Niger to act as principal and had many new experiences in the desert! In 2007, I had to return to the UK to care for my elderly mother. I worked as a regional mobiliser for SIM UK and combined this role with that of carer. After the death of my mother in March 2010, I was asked to consider taking on the role of Mobilisation Director of SIM UK. This was not what I had planned as I expected to return to field ministry but God's plans are not always my plans!
What I do:I am now the Mobilisation Director of SIM UK, responsible for our candidate processes - recruitment, application, interviewing, placement and debriefing - and also the communication department (web site, magazine, publicity). It is an honour to lead a team of mobilisers and administrators as we work to raise awareness of SIM in the UK and to work with churches who wish to send their missionaries with us.
