In response to enormous physical and spiritual needs in Bangladesh, SIM began a vocational training programme to help young men acquire marketable skills. Young Bangladeshis are now able to learn engine and motorbike mechanics as well as electronics, housewiring and welding. This initiative is named the SALAM Training Centre which stands for Salt And Light As Mechanics.

For 20 years, the SALAM Training Centre has tranformed the lives of young, underprivileged Bangladeshi men. Not only do these men leave after 18 months with a broad base of technical knowledge and practical skills, they leave empowered to effect their communities in positive, spiritually transforming ways.
