Guarani Radio (91332)
two men working in radio studio

Churches planted by SIM workers in Paraguay are growing and the number of believers is increasing! However, new Guarani believers have little opportunity to grow in their faith, and still more do not understand who Jesus is. But the good news is that the Guarani Radio in Caazapá broadcasts messages about the love and forgiveness of Jesus to Guarani people who have never heard. It also provides Bible teaching for church members scattered in rural areas.

SIM has aired a Bible reading program on the local FM station of Caazapá for several years. Celso Cáceres and SIM worker Dave Bremner spent two years recording the New Testament in the local Guarani dialect. Each program consists of two to three minutes of Bible reading followed by a short explanation in Guarani by Celso. The New Testament has already been aired more than five times in the town of Caazapá.

Recently, one church member began to host a one-hour Christian program with music, teaching, and a response to listeners’ questions. This was met with great enthusiasm. The teams feel that it is time to expand the Guarani Radio to include more airtime and to develop Christian announcers as well as create more programs in the local language.

In addition to the enthusiasm of listeners and the growth of the church, God has brought a gifted and mature young believer named Jorge Britez to head the ministry. He hosts a Guarani and Spanish program featuring Christian music, a five-minute Luis Palau program, a five-minute message in Guarani by a well-know Paraguayan evangelist, and a 15-minute Guarani recording that walks listeners through the Bible historically. Jorge also records testimonies and messages by church members in both Spanish and Guarani.

The radio project is now under the direction of a team from the local church - Iglesia Bíblica de Caazapá. Local funding is developed through sponsors and church offerings. However, the church is in the early stages of development and resources are stretched. Outside funding helps this multi-faceted ministry continue without undermining the initiative or ownership of local believers.

Currently, monthly costs are about US$250 for airtime, Jorge´s salary, and incidental expenses. If you would like to help keep the Guarani radio station on the air, you may mark your financial gift for project 91332. Thank you!
