SIM missionary Corey Garrett shares Bible stories with the Wolof people

After two years, the Wolof people in the village of Tawa, in Senegal, have worked their way through all the stories of the Old Testament. Sitting on a mat outside the hut of one of the village elders, Bennie Bonthuys, of SIM South Africa, has been telling the people the story of God, beginning with creation.

Now, the stories will continue, showing how Jesus is the promised Messiah. "When we get to this stage of chronological storying, the chief could ask us to stop the meetings as he sees it clearly contradicting their religious system," Bonthuys said.

"We are moving very slowly. People have started sensing where this is going and what that would mean to them—they are a little nervous but continue to listen."

Over the two years, the Bonthuys family has built relationships with the people of Tawa through friendship, teaching natural preventative healthcare, and conducting a mosquito net project which reduced malaria cases in the village.

"Slowly but surely our relationships deepen," Bonthuys said. "We are praying that all this will add up to people being able to take a good fresh look at the Gospel and the claims of Christ."
