Telling the Gospel in Many Ways
9 February 2012

Telling through Christmas gift boxes—An SIM couple with a ministry to M*slim refugees, along with friends from their church, distributed Christmas gift boxes to refugee families. “We were warmly welcomed, and after an hour of visiting, I explained the significance of Christmas to Christians and the reason that we were distributing gifts.

Telling through the Bible in a heart language—As we talked, the refugee wife said, “I used to read an S Bible in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya that an S Christian had there. (For security reasons we refer to this people group as “S”.) It was the new revision, and it explained things with footnotes.”

Telling through faithful, personal witness—The wife went on to say that she and her husband even knew another S Christian. He turned out to be someone that the SIM couple also knew when they lived in Kenya 13 years ago.

Telling through Christian radio programs in the heart language—Then she told us, “We used to listen to a Christian radio broadcast in the S language when we lived in Kenya called ‘The Voice of New Life.’” She described listening to the “Way of Righteousness” series that the wife of the missionary couple to whom she was talking had produced. The radio series has 99 programs; the first segment is on basic health lessons for mothers and the second segment is on chronological Bible storying.

Telling through the internet—This same popular radio series, “Way of Righteousness,” was uploaded to The New Life website. This page has become one of the most frequently visited on the entire site.

Telling through the medium of CDs—The SIM missionary couple told them that the S language hymn CD in their gift box would have many hymns that they would recognize from the broadcast.

Telling repeatedly through personal contacts—Our hope and prayer is that the distribution of the Christmas boxes will help church members to get to know refugee families, and that the Lord will call some to build relationships of friendship, service and Gospel witness. Rejoice with us and pray to this end.

“The Voice of New Life” was the first Christian broadcast in the S language. Thirty-two years after this shortwave broadcast began in 1974, “The New Life” website was launched. Today, more than 200 radio programs, two online Bible courses, more than a dozen items of literature and the entire Bible in the S language are available at any time of day or night to S people spread over the entire world. Since going public in 2007, this website has received visits from more than 100,000 people: roughly three percent of all S people estimated to be literate and living in more than 140 countries. The radio broadcast continues to reach the majority of the S people in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East. For more information on both the broadcast and the website, send us an email.
