Sudan Referendum Vote Draws Near
5 January 2011

The 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) created an interim governance arrangement for the people of Sudan who have been embroiled in a civil conflict for nearly five decades. The interim arrangement culminates in a referendum on 9 January 2011 for self determination for the Southern Sudanese people: to decide whether they will remain as part of the greater Sudan united with the Arab north or secede as an independent nation of their own. Either position has implications for peace and social cohesion for that country.

Please join us in praying for the Sudanese people as they walk through this process and make their wishes known this Sunday.

Prayer points:

  • for a safe and fair election
  • for a non-violent response to the results
  • for believers to be a true representation of God's grace and peace
  • for food supply, infrastructure and community services to remain intact
