Raking it in!
20 March 2012

The Metal Workshed in South Sudan has produced 3,000 quality metal rakes!

In less than six months since the project really begun in Thiangrial, we are already seeing some great success.

Workshop
Gardening rakes found in the markets around town are of poor quality and break easily. A local NGO noticed the quality of product produced by the Workshed at a competitive rate, and put in an order for 3,000 rakes. This request came from Fellowship for Africa Relief (F.A.R), a group involved in micro-finance with communities around Maluth County, Upper Nile State.

Students are learning to work with metal bars and sheet metal in order to create useful items ranging from tables, chairs, doors and... gardening tools. Some of the students have a natural aptitude for metal fabrication, and this successfully completed order bodes well for the future of the project, whose aim is to create sustainable, professional livelihoods for metal-workers after years of civil war.

Just as we are called to give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name to quench someone's thirst, so in this case we were called to build quality rakes to bless the community—in His name and for His glory. To learn more and watch a brief video, visit the Metal Workshed.
