Pray for Nigerian Christians after another attack
7 August 2012
Please pray for Nigeria as yet another attack on a church has killed 19 people, including the pastor, and injured scores more. Please pray hope and strength for the people at Deeper Life Bible Church as they mourn their loss. This is the southernmost attack of the militant Muslim group, Boko Haram. BBC News: Nigeria church attack in Kogi state 'kills 19' Description of a typical Sunday morning: Attending Church Despite Potential Attacks 21 July - 18 August: Please join in prayer with Christians around the globe to pray for our Muslim neighbors during this month of Ramadan, an important holy month for devout followers of Islam. Pray also that SIM workers and all Christians would be an encouragement to Muslims through this month that is physically challenging. I Samuel 12:23 11 June 2012: On Sunday morning, 10 June, another suicide bomb attack was carried out at a church in Jos, Nigeria. The next time you wake up on Sunday and don’t feel like making the effort to go to church, consider for a moment what attending church means for worshipers in the central Nigerian city of Jos. Here is one account by SIM missionary Dr. George Janvier of a typical Sunday morning: Attending Church Despite Potential Attacks
Pray for Peace in Jos, Nigeria21 January 2010: A few days ago violence between Christians and Muslims broke out in Jos, Nigeria. SIM's Nigeria Director calls the situation "very fluid," commenting on 21 January, "Currently Jos is peaceful, but we are getting reports of trouble in surrounding areas. There is free travel today from 10 AM to 5 PM, but stores are not open. [We are] hoping things will return to normal in a few days." Please join us in prayer for the safety of SIM missionaries in Jos as well as the people they work with every day.
A SIM missionary in Jos recently sent out this update which contains helpful prayer points:
Luke Johnson with SIM USA writes about his correspondence with this missionary, "In a further email, he said that there have been reports of violence spreading outside Jos. While the compound where he is currently at seems to be safe for the moment, he said 'the Evangel Hospital compound reported stray bullets in one area'—a hospital staffed by many SIM missionaries." "Please continue to pray for the safety of these SIM missionaries as well as Christians throughout Jos. This missionary (who we are not identifying for security reasons) ended his email with this statement: 'The prayers of the righteous [...] will effect God's purposes in Jos through his people. Thanks for praying.'" |
