I think I've done well ...

On Saturday, Grace looked nervous before the KidsEE club started. She scurried around to set up the different props for the lesson, paging through her notes every now and then. At a stage, when I asked if I could give her a hand, she touched her forehead and said: "During the workshop it was great fun, but in front of the children it’s the real thing …"
When Grace had presented part of lesson nine for evaluation at the training workshop earlier this year, she had done really well. We saw in her the potential to become a KidsEE teacher. When planning the Kids Club, we therefore asked her if she would be willing to present the whole of lesson nine to the children. She agreed and prepared really well, but as the kids were arriving, she was feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Luckily the singing, dancing and praying before the lesson broke the ice, and by the time it was Grace’s turn to present the lesson, she was in her element. She clearly illustrated how one sin spoils our chance to get into heaven, just like one rotten egg spoils all the good quality ingredients mixed together for a cake. The seriousness of sin, our separation from God and our need for God’s way out, made a great impression on the kids.
When we sat down to chat about it afterward, I asked her to evaluate herself. "I think I’ve done well," she said with a big smile. I agreed wholeheartedly and encouraged her to keep up the good work. On the way home in the bus, I thanked God for allowing me to see the fruit of our training. One more person has bridged the gap between attending the workshop and putting the material into practice. Maybe I could also say, "I think I’ve done well."
