Eritrea: Pray for the Persecuted Church
23 May 2012

Our persecuted brothers and sisters in Eritrea have asked that their Christian family around the globe join in unity to pray for them on the 10th anniversary of their churches being closed and their pastors imprisoned by the government. Church doors were closed in May 2002.

This call to prayer comes from Christians in Eritrea and the Association of Evangelicals in Africa. To pray is the “least and the most we can do”; it is an expression of our love.

SIM served the Eritrean people and its church since the 1950s. Our last SIM missionaries were forced out in July 2004 when their work permit was refused. With hearty hope, we pray for that joyful day when we will return.

Pray:

  • for the future of the Eritrean church which remains under constant persecution
  • for fear of God and humility in political leaders; for the salvation of soldiers, prison guards, and all government officials
  • for the prison doors of Eritrea to fling wide open. Like one cup emptying into another, may prison camps empty themselves of believers who pour back into the churches; may they worship freely and without threat of persecution.
  • for protection for the families of imprisoned pastors.
  • for wisdom and unity in the church leaders; for endurance and protection for Christians.
  • for the children of believers who are growing up in this situation—for protection and resilience of heart and mind

In addition to prayer you can spread the word. Please like, forward and repost this call to prayer.
