Comparing Death and Life
22 June 2011

Many are the debates surrounding the recent DEATH of Usama bin Laden on 2 May 2011, and what the world can expect in the aftermath. Those debates even extend to rural towns in northern Mozambique.

SIM missionary Normand Saindon, Director of Radio Chiuanjota in Chiconono, Mozambique, relates this story from Aubi, the Coordinator for Radio Chiuanjota:

"I was coming from town on the local taxi which was, like always over crowded, and I had to sit far back in a corner. Suddenly I heard the people up front discussing the recent death of Usama Bin Laden. They were telling how he was killed and how it was bad of the Americans doing such a thing. Others responded that he was a bad man and probably deserved it, as he killed many people. Still other people talked about the crowds at Ground Zero celebrating his death.

"People were debating about killing and retaliation...when someone mentioned that the only One who never killed or hated or retaliated was Jesus. The conversation then ended by everyone agreeing that Jesus was a righteous man. Sitting far in the corner, I knew that this was not said for my benefit...and I rejoiced to hear these words coming from our own people. "

Normand writes, "We pray that those who recognize that Jesus is righteous will realize WHO He really is, and will also trust their lives into his Hands...hands without the stains of blood on them. Only His own blood. Blood He shed for us."

Then there are those who realize who Jesus really is. He is LIFE.

Normand relates the joy of Easter and of those who found new Life in Christ.

"Easter brought joy as we celebrated the resurrected Lord and the baptism of six new believers. Most of them are illiterate and came to know about Jesus through the radio ministry. Pray for our presenters to be excited about making more programs to disciple those who cannot read the Word and those who live far from a local church. We know about a few small groups meeting together around the radio or an audio Bible "Proclaimer".

Radio 'Chiunjota', meaning 'That kills thirst" is a Christian community FM radio station in northern Mozambique, that broadcasts in Yao and Portuguese, aiming to reach the rural and mostly illiterate Yao people with the Gospel. Pray with us that their spiritual thirst will be quenched by the Living Waters of the Word of God!
