Pray for the family of killed pastor
27 September 2011

Please pray with us for the widow and six children of an Ethiopian pastor killed by another vehicle while driving his motorcycle.

Lukas was president of the Me’en churches in Ethiopia, as well as governor of Me’en tribe territory. He had enemies of the dominant tribe and many from the Me’en are wondering whether Lukas was killed on purpose.

Family friend and long-time SIM missionary, Ben Skaggs (pictured above), went to Me’en territory for the mourning after the burial. The Me’en mourn for at least one month after death. He writes, “When I went to Lukas’ house, I was greeted outside by quite a few of my Me’en buddies who were also there to mourn and to comfort Lukas’ family.

Lukas’ wife must have heard me coming, for as I entered the home, she knelt before me on the dirt floor with a picture of her husband in each hand, weeping and sobbing with all of her heart. I didn’t know what to do, except to kneel next to her, put my arm around her, and cry alongside of her.

After we cried together, I spoke of how Lukas’ life was not in vain, and how our Father could take this, and turn it into good for the saving of many lives (Genesis 50:20). Before I left the next day, I prayed with her and the women with her, asking our God to do just that, and to comfort those who remain behind. Lukas left her with six children.

As for some of the Me’en believers whom I know, they have told me that their faith had become weak, yet with Lukas’ graduation to heaven, God has strengthened their faith once again.”

Missionaries of Africa: Ten Me’en missionary families are sent by their churches to witness to the Bodi people.

Tikempt Ishet Health Program : The Tikempt Ishet Health Program meets a great need for medical care in Me'en territory and is a wholistic extension of the Me'en church.
